Supercapacitor from VINATech Radial EDLC's face challenges when exposed to a combination of high temperature and high humidity over an extended period of time that is outside the defined operating limits. As a consequence, a black substance develops as a typical characteristic at the (-) pin, which irreversibly destroys the conductor paths located in the vicinity of the component. We also speak of the betting phenomenon. This phenomenon is manufacturer-independent, to the best of our knowledge all manufacturers are affected. This is a fundamental technological problem. After years of intensive research, VINATech has developed a permanent shutdown measure for its 2.7 V and 3 V supercapacitors, for which a patent has been applied for. After more than one year of continuous cycle tests at 65°C and 90% relative humidity, no wetting was detected.
