Air Motion Transformers are a special type of high-frequency speaker system developed by the German physicist Oskar Heil in the course of his research into the characteristics of human hearing. The main feature is a special folding of the membrane foil and its accordion-like swinging with an applied sound signal. This folding allows a very large membrane area to be accommodated in a very small space. Amts are characterized by a very dynamic sound pattern, excellent pulse behavior, high efficiency and low harmonic distortion.
