TL431 is a three-terminal adjustable precision shunt voltage regulator IC. Using an external voltage divider, the TL431 can regulate voltages from 2.5 to 36 V, with currents up to 100 mA. The typical initial reference voltage deviation from the nominal 2.495 volts is measured in millivolts, the worst case maximum deviation is measured in tens of millivolts. So they are ideal replacements for Zener diodes.
