The module enables Arduino communication via the MIDI protocol. This interface is used to exchange information with synthesizers, sequencers and other popular music devices. The board communicates with Arduino through the UART serial link (RX and TX pins). MIDI Shield provides optoisolation between the Arduino pins (RX, TX) and the MIDI output, input (MIDI-OUT, MIDI-IN), as well as MIDI-THROUGH.
