This device from ST is the surface mount version of the successful 7800 series of fixed voltage regulators. Employing internal current limiting, thermal shut-down and safe area protection this device can, with adequate thermal management, deliver over 1A output current. This regulator can provide local on-card regulation, eliminating the distribution problems associated with single point regulation.
