This sensor emits an infrared light so that when it hits an obstacle, it is reflected and received by the photodiode. Both the sensitivity of the receiver and the strength of the transmitter can be adjusted. This allows the distance at which the sensor is triggered to be set. This is done using two different potentiometers. The sensor can be used to control autonomous robots, for example.
