The advantage of such an active-optical cable is the much greater transmission distance that can be achieved, as light signals are far less susceptible to electrical interference. Furthermore, hybrid cables are lighter in weight and have a smaller cable diameter compared to pure copper cables (of a comparable length). USB 3.2 is limited to short distances.
