Description In an electromagnet, the magnetic field is generated by an electric current. When a current flows through a wire, a magnetic field is created around it in accordance with Ampère’s law (the law of magnetic flux). To concentrate the magnetic field, the wire in an electromagnet is wound into a coil with as many turns as possible, arranged close together. The magnetic fields from all the turns pass through the center of the coil, creating a strong magnetic field there. The Grove electromagnet lifts (and holds!) a full kilogram! It is easy to use and a great way to understand how an electromagnet works.
