Measurements in the field of over-voltage category CAT I or CAT II can be performed using test leads without protective caps with metal, touchable probe tips up to 18 mm long. Measurements in the field of over-voltage category CAT III or Cat IV must only be performed using test leads with the protective caps, printed with CAT III/CAT IV and with a touchable and conductive section of the probe tip a maximum of 4 mm long.
