Most microcontrollers are not designed to protect against snoopers, but with a crypto-authentication chip you can safely lock away private keys. Once the private key is stored in the chip, it cannot be read, only challenge-response queries can be sent. This means that even if someone gets their hands on your hardware and can read back the firmware, they won't be able to extract it!

For this, the Microchip ATECC508A implements a full cryptographic signature solution with asymmetric (public/private) key based on Elliptic Curve Cryptography and ECDSA signature protocol. The device has hardware acceleration for the NIST standard P256 prime curve and supports the complete key lifecycle from high-value private key generation to ECDSA signature generation to ECDH key agreement and ECDSA public key signature verification.

Note This MaticControl module occupies the pins for: 5V / 3.3V power supply, I2C, GPIO14 (RXD) and GPIO15 (TXD).
