The SparkFun 7-Segment Serial Display - Red is an intelligent solution that combines a 4-digit 7-segment display and an ATMega328 microcontroller. This allows you to control each segment individually using just a few serial lines, making it easier than ever to incorporate these displays into your project.The display can be controlled using Serial TTL communication, SPI serial communication, or I2C serial, providing flexibility depending on your project needs. The ATMega328 microcontroller comes pre-loaded with the Arduino bootloader, enabling you to program it for stand-alone operation. Additionally, the board includes an FTDI header, and a hardware profile is provided for the Arduino IDE to simplify programming.One of the unique features of the SparkFun 7-Segment Serial Display is its layout. The power and I2C pins are positioned on the sides of the board, allowing you to chain multiple displays together to display longer strings of digits. The board also includes mounting holes, eliminating the need for hot glue and making it easy to mount on standoffs.This 4-digit red alphanumeric display can display numbers, most letters, and a few special characters. It offers individual control of decimal points, apostrophe, and colon. You can select the baud rate and brightness, with these values retained in non-volatile memory.
