SparkFun Current Sensor Breakout - ACS723 (Low Current)

The SparkFun Current Sensor Breakout - ACS723 (Low Current) is a precision device designed for AC and DC current sensing applications. The board employs the ACS723 sensor, which uses a Hall effect sensor to produce a voltage relative to the current flowing through the IP+ and IP- pins. This unique feature allows the sensed circuit and the circuit reading the sensor to be electrically isolated, permitting the sensed circuit to operate at higher DC or AC voltages, even when your Arduino is running on 5V.Remarkably, the low current sensor breakout can sense minute currents as low as approximately 10mA and substantial currents up to 5A. However, keep in mind that the output is analog, so your usable readings may be constrained by noise and the resolution of the ADC reading the output. The breakout also boasts full electrical isolation of measured and sensed circuits and can adjust its sensitivity thanks to an on-board amplifier. The bandwidth on the ACS723 Sensor Breakout width filter is set to 20kHz to minimize noise when used at high gains, but the full 80kHz bandwidth that the sensor is capable of can be restored by closing the JP1 (Bandwidth Select) jumper on the back of the board.Please note, while the chip is rated for up to 2.4kV (RMS) of isolation, the board is not designed for such high voltage applications.SparkFun provides a comprehensive ACS723 Current Sensor Breakout Guide to help you get started with the product.
