SparkFun Distance Sensor - 1.3 Meter, VL53L4CD (Qwiic)

The SparkFun Distance Sensor Breakout is a compact and highly accurate sensor that uses the VL53L4CD next generation ToF (Time of Flight) sensor module. This advanced sensor from STMicroelectronics employs a VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) to emit an infrared laser, timing the reflection to the target, and providing accurate measurements from 1mm to 1300mm with millimeter resolution. Communication is straightforward, exclusively via I2C, and the device is compatible with the convenient Qwiic system, eliminating the need for soldering. For those who prefer traditional methods, 2.54mm-spaced pins are also available for use with a breadboard. The VL53L4CD sensor has a precision of 1mm and an accuracy of around +/-7mm (white target: 88%, indoor, no infrared). It can read a minimum distance of 1mm, with a full field of view of 18° and a read rate of up to 100Hz. The sensor requires a power supply of 2.6V-3.5V to operate. Before using, remember to remove the protective sticker on the VL53L4CD to ensure accurate readings.The SparkFun Distance Sensor is a CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT CLASSIFIED IEC 60825-1 2014. It is part of the SparkFun Qwiic Connect System, an ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields, and cables that simplifies prototyping and reduces errors. All Qwiic-enabled boards use a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector, saving PCB space and preventing incorrect connections.Key features of the SparkFun Distance Sensor include an operating voltage of 2.6V to 3.5V, average current consumption of 22mA, a measurement range of 1mm to 1300mm, resolution of ±1mm, a light source of Class 1 940nm VCSEL, a field of view of 18°, and a max read rate of 100Hz. The sensor also includes two Qwiic Connectors, a 7-bit unshifted I2C Address: 0x29, and an operating temperature range of -30°C to +85°C. Please note that the I2C address of the VL53L4CD is 0x29 and is hardware defined. To communicate with multiple VL53L4CD sensors on a single bus, a multiplexer/Mux is required.
