The Sparkfun USB 32-Bit Whacker - PIC32MX795 Development Board is a compact, breadboard-friendly development board that utilizes the PIC32MX795 IC, a 32-bit CPU from Microchip. This board includes all the necessary external circuitry to power up the PIC32. Power can be supplied either through USB or an external source. For user interaction, the board is equipped with three push buttons (Reset, and two user-defined buttons) and five LEDs (Power, USB, and three user-defined LEDs). The board provides access to all 78 I/O pins of the PIC32. The board comes with a pre-installed USB bootloader and special UBW firmware that accepts simple serial commands to control the various I/O functions.This development board is an excellent choice for those who have previously worked with UBW or Arduino and found them lacking in CPU power, memory, I/O pins, or sophisticated software. The UBW32 offers a significant upgrade in I/O and CPU capabilities, with only a slight increase in cost.The UBW32 serves as a robust stand-alone development platform for the USB PIC32 chip. It features a user-friendly USB bootloader, allowing you to write your own code and download it to the board without needing any additional programmer, tools, or software. For low-level debugging, you can also attach an ICD2/ICD3 or other PIC debugger.The PIC32 chip supports USB OTG, USB Mass Store, USB Virtual Com Port, and USB Host roles. The board includes a footprint for a USB connector on the bottom, allowing you to connect any USB device to the UBW32. A jumper is also provided to power the VBUS 5V USB wire if you program your UBW32 to be a USB Host.Sparkfun's collaboration with Brian Schmalz has resulted in this product.
