Ok... so here's the story, If like me your Technika 26 inch LCD (el' cheapo Tesco disposable TV - but OK for thye kitchen ! ) went black during a thunder storm ... then you are going to do one of three things

1.) go out and buy a replacement because the wife will nag constantly 2.) go out and buy a replacement, but then perform an alien ortopsy on the dead one. 3.) say thank god we can eat supper in peace.

We did option two, only to find that there was nothing visible wrong, no burning, no fused tracks, no blown capacitors... all looked well, so then down to components level testing and luckily we soon came across the dead YG865C10 barrier diode.

The next trick was to find someone that had some in the UK at a sensible price... no luck so we ordered some in from Japan. Within 10 minutes of them arriving the fix was complete ,the TV lit up and all was well , no other components were needed.

The moral of this story, If you like eating your supper in peace don't do the repair.
