The M11/M5 is a permanent magnet, housed in a rugged threaded case (stainless steel) to allow the easy adjustment of distance. The M11 can be used with various types of reed sensor as an actuation magnet. When the magnet is moved into the vicinity of the reed switch integrated in the sensor, the contacts close. When the magnet is removed, the contacts open again. The opening and closing points of the sensor depend on the switch used, the size, strength, position and movement of the permanent magnet.
