WSMI7102 Kit: Metal detector

Hitting an electrical cable when drilling a hole can have catastrophic consequences. Drilling gas, water or central heating pipes can have even worse consequences. This handy metal detector can be used to check for metal objects in the wall, ceiling or floor before drilling. An LED indicates when a metal part is within range.

If you have trouble calibrating the device (i.e. if the LED does not turn off, if there is no metal nearby), replace C1 with a ceramic 1.2nF (122) capacitor. The cause of this problem is the differences in the component values and the deviations when winding the windings.
