What is eIO?

PiXtend eIO is the I/O expansion system for all who are looking for inexpensive, general purpose inputs and outputs - digital & analog. The data connection is made with the robust RS485 bus. If not available, it can be retrofitted to any computer system. The eIO modules and their inputs and outputs comply with the IEC 61131-2 industrial standard and are therefore intended for use in harsh environments in laboratories, industry and commercial enterprises. Compliance with the worldwide industry standard has great advantages in terms of stability and noise immunity. All common sensors & actuators can easily be connected to PiXtend eIO. Innovative features, such as the particularly fast digital "Hyper Logic", bring added value to your project. Simple logical links between inputs and outputs can thus be carried out by the modules themselves without the need for data transmission via the bus. Digital inputs can also be used to count events. A watchdog timer monitors the data transmission secured by a CRC checksum and sets the outputs to an adjustable, safe state if required.

The eIO system fits optically, haptically and functionally optimally to our PiXtend V2 controllers (-S- and -L-) - but can also be connected to almost any other computer system & embedded device which has an RS485 or where it can be retrofitted (e.g. via USB).

PiXtend eIO is also simple and user-friendly when it comes to communication and protocols. With Modbus RTU support, eIO devices can also be integrated into existing systems. The protocol is secure and has been tried and tested in industry for decades. In addition, the eIO devices can also be addressed with the particularly simple & lean "PiXtend eIO protocol", which transmits the data in plain text (ASCII).

Pixtend offers Open Source sample programs for C, C#, Python, CODESYS (61131-3), Java & Node-RED. Integration into your own applications is child's play.

The basic settings can be carried out directly and easily on the device - without software - without prior knowledge of the personnel on site.

Variant: PiXtend eIO Digital One Pro The "PiXtend eIO Digital One Pro" devices are ready-to-use complete devices which, in addition to the basic version, also have a stainless steel cover and a DIN rail housing. This version is particularly suitable if the devices are to be installed in a switch cabinet and the industrial application is in the foreground. This eIO Digital One variant is aimed at customers with the highest demands on appearance, stability and security. Digital One has 8 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs.

Would you like to install the devices in your own special housing and do not need a DIN rail housing or a metal cover? Then the "Basic" variant is exactly what you are looking for. (see "Accessories & Alternative Products)
