The 2AC checks whether circuits have voltage and whether any faulty earths are present, which makes it suitable for both professional electricians and do-it-yourselfers. The pocked-sized measuring tip of the voltage detector turns red when it is near a power outlet, terminal strip or a power cable where voltage is present.

Operating principle: Detects the electrostatic field generated by the alternating current (AC) voltage in a steady state. The detection is made by isolation; contact with the unprotected conductor is not required. If the test pin turns red, there is voltage.
