3DQF PETG is made in Greater Manchester right here in the UK, with tight tolerances, the highest quality material and a fully recyclable custom cardboard spool that's now compatible with the Bambu Labs AMS system (when used with these clever printable spool adaptors). We're big fans of 3DQF filament, and it's great to support a fellow small UK business in the maker scene. This is 3DQF Apple Red 1.75mm PETG in a generous 1kg spool. A classic bright red for anything from Santa's pants to a Ferrari model - you gotta have some classic red to hand, especially if you're doing the multicolour printing thing! We have more PETG colours available in the store too! The custom laser-cut cardboard is fully recyclable and includes a filament indicator to help you keep an eye on your remaining filament. 3DQF filament holds a tight tolerance of 0.03mm - and that's over a 52-kilometre run (a human hair is .04!)! PETG vs PLA PETG is more durable and offers greater hardness and strength than PLA filament, with a more 'elastic' quality helping with impact strength/shock and moving mechanical parts. It's also resistant to higher temperatures, water, chemical solvents and UV light. The downsides vs PLA are higher printing temperature requirements, sometimes (heavily debated) not as nice of a finish, and a different approach required for bed adhesion (or over-adhesion!). PETG is usually more expensive as well. We love using PETG as an interface layer for PLA supports, it makes them release from the model so much easier. Printable Spool Adaptors As the spool is cardboard, you may want to print an adapter for your setup (please note that future batches of this filament may include a printed spool inner already within the reel):
* Bambu Labs AMS users - Print this spool adaptor for the best performance (we also found that squishing a big ball of blu-tack inside the adapter can help keep the AMS happy as the extra weight helps to keep the spool in place) * Bambu AMS Lite users - Print these low-friction spool rings
* Using a roller-type spool holder? Print one of these spool edge protectors (Not AMS-friendly, use the AMS version above) * Using a traditional spool holder? Print these low-friction inserts for smooth, stable unloading
Recommended Printing Parameters
* Hot end Temperature: 235-260°C
* Bed Temperature: 70-100°C
* Initial layer height: .4mm * Like all filament (especially PETG), keep it dry and away from humidity as much as possible (we always dry ours before using, for the belt & braces approach) * Consider bed adhesion - PETG can stick too well to glass beds (some use glue stick or hairspray as a barrier layer) ...and always check your bed levels...then check em' again! Specification
* Colour: Apple Red
* Material: PETG filament * Diameter: 1.75mm + tolerance * Tolerance: 0.03mm * Filament Weight: 1kg Gross Spool Specification
* 65-69mm W * 194 mm D * 64 mm ID Axle*** * Card Construction * Airtight Bag with desiccant * Spool Weight 60-70 grams ***Please note, as of July 2024, all 1KG PETG rolls are supplied with a 3D-printed axle insert to increase spool strength during drying. This reduces the axle ID to 64mm. If your PETG roll does not have this printed insert, the core ID remains consistent with the rest of our range at 70mm. Resources
