Adafruit IR Break Beam Sensor with Premium Wire Header Ends - 5mm LEDs

Infrared (IR) break-beam sensors offer a straightforward method for motion detection. Featuring a concealed IR light emitter and a receiver that captures this light, they detect interruptions when an object blocks the beam, even if it's invisible to the human eye.Compared to PIR sensors, break beams offer quicker response times and precise motion detection areas. They are more cost-effective than Sonar modules, although they require an emitter and receiver to be placed on opposite sides of the monitored area. This 5mm IR version is now available with premium wire ends, simplifying integration with breadboards.The sensor efficiently operates within a 50cm or 20-inch range and is powered by either 3.3V or 5V, with 5V providing enhanced range performance. The receiver features an open collector transistor output, so a pull-up resistor is required for digital signal reading, easily accomplished with most microcontrollers that support built-in pull-up resistors. Alternatively, connect a 10K resistor between the receiver's white and red wires. It can handle up to 100mA to ground, suitable for controlling peripherals like relays or LEDs.For shorter distances, a 3mm version is also available.
