Note: Persons who leave their vehicles outside built-up areas and who are present on the carriageway or the hard shoulder are required to wear a high-visibility vest in line with Euro 471. This regulation has applied in Italy since 1 April 2004 and in Spain since 24 July 2004. Drivers of mopeds and motorcycles are exempt.

High-visibility vests are required in many European countries (in Germany from July 2014).

For your personal safety and to avoid incurring fines (in Italy at least EUR 33.60 - in Spain up to EUR 91), at least one high-visibility vest should be readily available at all times on each trip and put on in appropriate situations (e.g. breakdown or accident) before getting out of the vehicle.
