Thanks to the high bandwidth, higher color depths and image repetition frequencies can now be achieved.

For example, 8K images can be reproduced in 4:4:4 color space at a color depth of 12-bit (uncompressed).

Compressed (DSC 1.2) 10K can also be transmitted in 4:4:4 color space at 16-bit color depth.

Higher refresh rates and bandwidth are increasingly important in 3D, VR applications and video games.

Using enhanced Audio return Channel (earc), object-based audio formats can now be transmitted via the HDMI cable.

To this end, the permissible bandwidth for the enhanced Audio return Channel has been increased from 1 Mbps to 37 Mbps.
