Microchip's 8-bit AVR RISC-based high-performance picoPower microcontroller combines 32 KB ISP flash memory with read and write functions, 32B EEPROM, 2 KB SRAM, 23 universal I/O lines, 1024 universal work registers and three flexible timers/counters with comparison modes, internal and external interrupts, serial programmable USART, a byte-oriented serial 2-wire interface, a serial SPI port, a 10-bit A/D converter with 6 channels (8 channels in TQFP and QFN/MLF packages), programmable watchdog timer with internal oscillator and five software-selectable power save modes. The processor operates between 1.8 and 5.5 volts.

By executing powerful commands in a single clock cycle, the device achieves throughputs of nearly 1 MIPS per MHz, balancing power consumption and processing speed.
